Mark D. Lipton served in the State's
Attorney's Office for Champaign County from May 1975 until June 1982; he
was First Assistant State's Attorney from January 1981 through June 1982.
Mr. Lipton joined Meyer Capel, a Professional Corporation, in June 1982.
Mark earned a bachelor of arts in sociology from Knox College, Galesburg,
Illinois in 1968. He was graduated cum laude from Northwestern University
School of Law in 1975. Between college and law school, Mark served in the
United States Army, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. While in law school,
he was elected to membership in the Order of the Coif and invited to join
the staff of the Northwestern University Law Review. He declined the latter
invitation to serve as executive editor of the Journal of Criminal Law
and Criminology.
Mark is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Illinois Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Illinois State and Champaign County
Bar Associations (CCBA President, 1998-2000). Mark is also a member of the legal committee for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. He enjoys reading, canoeing,
bowling and hiking.
