Tristan N. Bullington joined Meyer Capel in 2017 as an associate attorney to become a part of the firm’s family law and litigation services practice group. He brings extensive knowledge in divorce, family law, and criminal defense work.

Tristan attended Washington State University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in 2006. He then attended the University of Illinois College of Law, graduating cum laude in 2009 with his Juris Doctor degree.

In law school, Tristan was an active member of the inaugural Federal Civil Rights Clinic, earning a Rickert Award for Excellence in Advocacy for his efforts. He also interned with a public defender’s office in the Seattle area where he gained jury trial experience. Upon graduation, he worked with the Bloomington, Illinois office of Prairie State Legal Services, Inc. While there, he primarily handled Landlord Tenant, Social Security, and family law matters.

Tristan has also worked as an Assistant Public Defender for McLean County, Illinois where he handled misdemeanor cases and served on the mental health specialty court. In 2013, Tristan joined the Bloomington family law firm of Allison & Mosby-Scott where he both practiced extensively in all kinds of family law cases and expanded that firm’s practice areas to include criminal defense work.

Tristan’s practice has focused on litigation. He has successfully conducted several jury trials and countless bench trials. Additionally, he has practiced in the areas of landlord-tenant, divorce, custody/visitation, orders of protection, criminal law, driving under the influence (DUI), social security, and debt collection. He currently focuses his practice in the areas of criminal law and family law, including divorce/dissolution of marriage, custody/visitation (including the allocation of parental responsibilities), orders of protection, child support, maintenance and division of retirement benefits. Tristan is a court approved mediator and guardian ad litem for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit.

Tristan is an active member of the McLean County Bar Association and serves on several of its committees, including the Young Lawyers Division, Community Services Scholarship and Mentoring Committees. He currently serves as the Co-Chair of the Bar Association’s Family Law Committee. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and the National College for DUI Defense.

Tristan is the President of the McLean County Recovery Court Advisory board, serves as the co-chair for the Bloomington Prairie State Legal Services fundraising committee, and is chairman of the City of Bloomington Zoning Board of Appeals. He previously served for 5 years as an adjunct faculty member and assistant mock trial coach at Illinois State University in Normal.

Tristan lives in Bloomington with his wife, Monica, a real estate agent, and their two cats.
