Elizabeth Kurt brings a wealth of experience to the firm, having worked with prominent health law entities and health systems. She began her career at Hall Render Killian Heath and Lyman, a national health law firm, from 2007 to 2012. She then served as in-house counsel for UnityPoint Health from 2012 to 2019 and held a similar role at Carle-Health Alliance from 2019-2025.
Elizabeth provides comprehensive legal counsel in several key areas:
- Board Governance: Advising on board governance, resolutions, and bylaws.
- Healthcare Compliance: Guiding healthcare providers on compliance with federal and state regulations, including Stark, Anti-Kickback Law, 340b pharmacy laws, health insurance regulations, Civil Monetary Penalties, reimbursement issues (Medicare and Medicaid), tax-exempt issues, and anti-trust matters.
- Regulatory Compliance and Audits: Managing fraud and abuse cases, government audits, internal audits, and developing audit responses and action plans.
- Mergers and Acquisitions: Advising on mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures, from initial strategic discussions through post-deal integration, including due diligence and regulatory guidance.
- Multi-State Regulatory Compliance: Assisting clients with regulatory filings and licensure issues across multiple states, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington State, Missouri, and Nebraska.
- ERISA Compliance: Providing counsel on ERISA compliance, particularly for self-funded health plans.
- Contract Negotiation: Drafting and negotiating a wide range of agreements, including vendor, employment, Business Associate, IT, SaaS, and insurance agreements.
- HIPAA Privacy and Security: Advising on HIPAA issues, breach investigations, notifications, and responses to government and state agency inquiries.
Elizabeth has

Ascension, regional health systems, physician practices, ancillary healthcare
providers, behavioral health providers, DME providers, home health and hospice
services, pharmacies, physician-owned hospitals, birthing centers, and health
