Marie J. Casteel joined Meyer Capel in 2018 as an associate attorney, joining the firm’s family law and litigation practice groups.
Marie has practiced family law in Ohio and Illinois, and has worked professionally with children and families throughout her career. Her practice has primarily focused on family law work that includes dissolution of marriage, allocation of parental rights and responsibilities (child custody), child support, maintenance, orders of protection, and adoptions. She works closely with families to represent their interests and achieve equitable results – financially, and in the best interests her clients and their children.
In 2004, Ms. Casteel earned a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She spent four years teaching as a tenured high school teacher before attending law school. During her Juris Doctorate program at the University of Cincinnati College of Law, Marie was the recipient of the John D. Holschuh Scholarship in 2008, and later received The Lois Rosenthal Award for her work as a fellow for the Rosenthal Institute of Justice/Ohio Innocence Project. She earned her J.D. in 2011.
Ms. Casteel has continued her love for art as a Member and Exhibiting Artist at a Bloomington, Illinois art gallery from 2014 through 2017. In her leisure time, Marie is an avid painter, mixed media artist, and gardener.
Marie resides in Champaign and enjoys spending her free time with her partner Greg, her step-daughter Honnalee, and her son Jackson.
