David B. Sholem joined Meyer Capel in 1978 and was named as a shareholder of the firm in 1982. He has represented a number of real estate developers and investors, including real estate investment trusts, institutional investors and real estate asset managers for institutional investors in many asset classes, including multifamily, commercial and agricultural real estate. David Sholem has also been active in real estate investment and development as a principal of Providence Capital Group, Inc. which maintains offices in Encinitas, California. While doing so, he has acquired a client’s perspective and an appreciation of the issues facing real estate investors.

David Sholem also has significant experience in a variety of business transactional issues including mergers and acquisitions, debt and equity financing transactions, and asset purchase and sale transactions. His clients include start-up technology companies which have commercialized technology developed at and licensed from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Education

He graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Mr. Sholem attended the University of Illinois College of Law and Case Western Reserve University’s School of Law where he obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 1978. He was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 1978. Mr. Sholem’s professional affiliations include Champaign County (Illinois) Bar Association (former President), Illinois State Bar Association (Real Estate Section) and American Bar Association.

Community and Civic Engagement

David is active in a number of organizations and has served on the board of directors of Sinai Temple Congregation, Community Advisory Board of the Celebration Company (The Station Theater), and the Executive Committee of the Brown University Alumni Schools Committee. He was elected to and served on the Board of Education for the Champaign, Illinois school district from 2001 to 2005.
