Keith has been recognized as both an Illinois Leading Lawyer and an Illinois Super Lawyer in the Health Care Law field. His practice includes general litigation, alternative dispute resolution (“ADR”) and the general representation of physicians and other health care professionals, medical group practices, hospitals and managed care organizations. His areas of interest include physician employment contracts, general health care contracts and transactions, fraud and abuse regulatory compliance, governmental investigation defense, medical staff issues, medical disciplinary matters, risk management and both HIPAA and state medical privacy law-related matters. Keith also represents health care professionals in proceedings before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation (IDPR). He has served as a hospital medical staff hearing officer as well as a mediator and arbitrator in the resolution of civil disputes. For many years Keith defended physicians, nurses, medical group practices, managed care organizations, dentists, chiropractors, attorneys, accountants and other professionals in professional liability litigation.
Keith is a past President and member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys (IAHA). He served as the first chair of the IAHA Illinois Health Law Survey committee, which publishes the only annual compilation of Illinois health-related court decisions, legislation and regulations. He is a past-Chairman and current member of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) Health Care Section Council. He also served as an Associate Editor for the Section Council's publication, the Health Care Lawyer . He represents the Health Care Section Council as a member of the ISBA Standing Committee on Legislation. Mr. Emmons is board member of the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation and a former board member of the Illinois Bar Foundation. He is a member of the American Society of Medical Association Counsel (ASMAC), the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) and the American Bar Association (ABA). He is a graduate of the Loyola University of Chicago School of Law where he was a member of the Loyola University Law Journal, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Southern Illinois University.
With his focus on healthcare, Keith makes frequent presentations to healthcare professionals and attorneys concerning health-related legal issues. He has been a featured speaker for the Illinois State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Academy of Healthcare Attorneys Annual Meeting and the Illinois Association of Healthcare Attorneys Annual Symposium. In addition, Keith is the author of numerous articles on medical malpractice defense, managed care reform, corporate medical practice, physician representation and the ever-changing healthcare environment.
