Patrick "Pat" Fitzgerald began his legal career with Meyer Capel in 1987 as a law clerk. Now, as a shareholder with the firm, he concentrates in real estate. Pat has extensive experience in connection with the development of commercial, residential, hospitality, and industrial real estate. Pat coordinated development of the Research Park at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign which presently consists of 834,000 square feet of commercial and hotel space on 200 acres of real estate. In addition, Pat led the legal team which represented the developers of over 750,000 square feet of commercial real estate along the Interstate 74/Interstate 57 corridors in Champaign, Illinois. Pat has acquired a developer's pragmatic perspective from his personal investment and development of a range of real estate products ranging from agricultural to single family and multi-family residential to commercial real estate.

Education

Pat is a graduate of Urbana High School and a native of Champaign-Urbana. He is a 1989 graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law where he earned a spot on the Dean's List. In 1986, he received a bachelor of arts in economics, also from the University of Illinois.

Community and Civic Engagement

Pat is a member of the Champaign County Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, and American Bar Association. Further, he is actively involved with the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce as well as the Champaign Kiwanis Club.

Personal Interests

He and his wife, Susan, also a University of Illinois graduate and native of Champaign-Urbana, have three children. Away from his legal practice, Pat is an avid sports fan. He enjoys football, basketball, baseball and golf both as a spectator and as a participant.
