Bio

Peter W. Su joined Meyer Capel in August of 2021 to become part of the firm’s litigation services practice group with a focus on criminal and traffic.

Peter served as an Assistant State’s Attorney in the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office prior to joining Meyer Capel. At the State’s Attorney’s Office, Peter completed jury trials in traffic cases, DUIs, misdemeanors, and felonies. Peter also received over 80 hours of training in trial advocacy, including intensive DUI training. During his tenure at the State’s Attorney’s Office, Peter was the Senior Assistant in the Traffic Division before being promoted. When Peter left the State’s Attorney’s Office, he was prosecuting a full felony case load.

Education

Peter is a 2012 graduate of the University of Illinois where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Science. After graduating, Peter spent two years teaching English in China before attending Southern Illinois University School of Law and earning his Juris Doctor in 2017. While in law school Peter earned a CALI award for the highest grade in his trial advocacy class, was President of the Environmental Law Society, Treasurer of the Hispanic Law Student Association, and was Associate Commentary Editor on The Journal of Legal Medicine. Peter was also employed by the law school as a Taylor Mattis Fellow and a teaching assistant.

Personal Interests

Peter is a Champaign native having attended South Side Elementary, Dr. Howard Elementary, Franklin Middle School, and Champaign Central High School. Peter is currently a member of the Champaign County and Illinois State Bar Associations. In his free time Peter enjoys sports, traveling, and spending time with his family.
