Sam A. Limentato joined Meyer Capel as a shareholder of the firm in February 2023. Immediately prior to joining the firm, Sam served as a Champaign County Circuit Judge, assigned as the Presiding Judge over the Family Law Division.

Due to his unique background and experience, Sam focuses on Litigation Services, Real Estate, Business Planning and Transactions, Personal Injury, and alternative dispute resolution.

In addition to his prior service as a Circuit Judge for the Illinois Sixth Judicial Circuit, Sam worked at other local law firms where he focused his practice on insurance defense, general civil litigation, workers’ compensation, Dram Shop, employment, and contract matters. From 1999 through 2019, Sam was a founding and managing member of Torricelli & Limentato, where he was engaged in a robust practice, spanning the presentation of legal matters to judges and juries both locally and in over 30 other Illinois counties. Sam continued his practice as Limentato Law, beginning in 2019, until May 2020, when he was unanimously appointed by order of the Illinois Supreme Court to serve as a Circuit Judge. He was the presiding judge of the Family Law Division in Champaign County, addressing issues involving families, children, weddings, adoptions, and orders of protection. He was also involved in other judicial areas, including various civil and criminal matters, including the consideration of search and arrest warrants.

Sam is licensed to practice in all the Courts of the State of Illinois and in the U.S. District Court of the Central and Southern Districts of Illinois. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association (where he serves on the Bench and Bar committee and Law Office Management committee) and Champaign County Bar Association. He has also been a past member of the Illinois Judges Association and Illinois Certified Public Accountant Society. Sam has also served as an Administrative Law Judge for the Illinois Department of Public Health and as a certified mediator for Champaign County.

Education

Sam A. Limentato received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Oral Roberts University, Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1991. He received his J.D. from the University of Illinois College of Law in 1994 and passed the Illinois Certified Public Accountant Examination in 1995.

Community and Civic Engagement

Sam has been involved in our community in numerous capacities, including as youth and Illinois High School Association baseball coach, past homeowner’s association president, and remains a frequent presenter and speaker at our schools and community organizations. He is a member of Champaign Rotary.

Personal Interests

Sam returned after college with his wife to Champaign to attend law school at the University of Illinois, begin his practice and raise their five children in Champaign. He is the son of Italian immigrants and was raised with a strong sense of work ethic and respect for everyone. Two of his sons are involved in the United States Military. Sam’s personal interests involve time with his family, service to his community, travel, and reading.
